Google is working on its implementation into its search algorithms for a long time, but it managed to introduce it in the year 2011. It is basically a way to verify relation between a person's content on the internet and his Google Plus account.
Google developed rel Author HTML tag in order to make it easy for authors to link their content to Google Plus profiles. It will also effect the way your site is presented in Google's search result.
After successful implementation of Authorship on your blog, the profile picture will show up in search results along side with your content. If you have successfully implemented it on your blog, your search results will look like this.

many reason to do so. It is also noticed that authorship implemented
blog are getting high CTR, as their search results contains their smiling pictures which attracts readers. :)

How to Implement Authorship on your blog
Follow these steps
- You must have a profile on Google Plus, if you don't have, create it now.
- Confirm your E-mail ID.
- Now go to Google Plus profile and click on edit profile.
- Select "About" and then click on Contributor to option. Add the URL of your blog or site there and save it.
Note: Make sure the name you are using in your Google Plus
profile must appear at the end of the post (for example "By Shivam
Rana". Always add the root domain of your blog in contributor to section
in One Plus profile.
Now if you are also doing guest posting for the purpose of link
building, then Google must know that it is your content. To do so you
can add rel="author" tag in the back link to my blog in Author's Bio.
Don't forget to add URL of the blog on which you are guest posting in
"Contributor To" section of your profile.
Last step is to test if you have successfully completed the process without doing any mistake. To do use Google Webmaster's Structured Data Testing Tool. Enter your blog's URL and click on preview.
